Top Gear Festival powered by BP Ultimate, is making it’s debut at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit from 17th – 20th March 2011 with an incredible line-up of cars and driving talent. The Top Gear festival is hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

The Top Gear Festival featuring the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 Team and South Africa’s very own Formula 1 Champion, Jody Scheckter, as well as a host of other guest drivers, presenters and celebrities, the March event promises to be the largest motoring festival South Africa has ever seen.

The 12th Annual "Woordfees" organised by Stellenbosch University and encompassing the full spectrum of Afrikaans literature, music, drama and poetry runs from 4th to 13th March 2011. Woordfees is unashamedly a celebration of Afrikaans and its rich, colourful, tragic and joyful history. It is a celebration of a journey over hundreds of years and a brochure for the journey that lies ahead.

Woordfees has a long and varied program spread over many venues in and around Stellenbosch. Bookings are already in full swing and if one wants to attend now is the time to book.

The South African National Quilt Festival takes place from the evening 30th June to the 7th July 2011. South African The National Quilt Festival incorporates the Quilt Exhibition from the 1st to 6th July.

This will be the 16th annual South African National Quilt Festival which this year will be organised by the Good Hope Quilter’s Guild.

Exhibitors from all over South Africa will be showing their work and most of the top suppliers of quilting products will also have stands at the exhibition.

The 2011 Absa Fugard Festival will be held from 23- 26 September 2011 and the organizers are now awaiting applications. Artists who wish to be part of the 2011 Fugard Festival have until the 15 March 2011 to submit their applications.

The annual Absa Fugard Festival held in Nieu Bethesda over the heritage weekend is the biggest Fugard celebration in the world and aims not only to honour Athol Fugard’s work and contributions to South Africa but also to bring art to the people and invest in our community and our heritage.

The organizers hope to attract more Fugard plays in 2011 and will also consider the work of other playwrights. The Absa Fugard Festival is not only about theatre but also offers a wide selection of music and visual art and caters for all tastes and likes.

Scifest have announced the dates for the 2011 version of the Annual Grahamstown Science Festival. Entries for exhibitors closed last week and the program for this year will be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime plan ahead for this years Grahamstown Science Festival, which has been provisionally scheduled for 4th to 10th May 2011.

Since its establishment in 1997 as a project of the Grahamstown Foundation, Scifest Africa, South Africa’s National Science Festival, has become very successful in changing misconceptions and attitudes of the general public towards science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Through a range of interactive activities ranging from lectures, workshops, talks shows, exhibitions etc, visitors are shown how STEM underpins their daily lives. Learners and educators are given the opportunity to experience science outside the classroom in a fun and informative way. They are able to interact with scientists who share their work and provide career guidance thereby acting as role models for our youth.

The Annual Lamberts Bay Kreeffees (Crayfish Festival) is on the weekend of the 18 - 20 March 2011.  Lamberts Bay takes pride in celebrating their tenth consecutive Crayfish and Cultural Festival, and there will be crayfish by the ton available at the ridiculous price of R70 per crayfish. 

Prepared in true West coast style, the crayfish will be available at the Graca Crayfish stall. Highlights on the menu include Muisbosskerm Paella and a Paella & Crayfish Combo. Other food stalls will also be available for the discerning pallet.

The Durbanville Wine Valley Feast Of The Grape Festival takes place on Monday 21st March 2011, which is a public holiday. 

The Festival is hosted on 10 wine farms in the valley and each has a unique program arranged for the day.

Must-visit attractions:

Wine and grapes blend with rock and roll at Hillcrest. Kick off the day with free wine and olive tasting at the cellar door. The music of Jacobus Brink will get you in the mood to grape stomp or just relax with your family. Bring a picnic blanket and snack at the food stalls.

At Diemersdal bring a basket, order your picnic beforehand, or snack on the food offerings of hotdogs, sushi, and more. While the little ones play on the slip and slide, enjoy cellar tours and walks through the vines, or simply chill and listen to Shananigans.

The French celebrate the Fêtes des Vendanges; the Italians their Festa dell’uva, while in the lush Durbanville valley the winemakers celebrate the fruits of their labour with the annual  Feast of the Grape.
Hosted on twelve wine farms and falling on Human Rights Day, Monday 21st March 2011, the event marks the end of the grape harvest and the arrival of autumn with a one-day feast filled with grape gastronomy, country fare, live music, squishy grape-stomping, hay rides in the vineyards and, yes, plenty of seasonal wines to sip.  A mere 20 minutes from the centre of Cape Town, the charming wine route set in rolling hills is the perfect place to enjoy the last summer days with family and friends.

Taking part in the grape frolicks are Groot Phesantekraal Farm (Phizante Kraal Wines), Klein Roosboom, De Vallei,  Nitida, Meerendal, Hillcrest, Durbanville Hills, Diemersdal, De Grendel, D’Aria, Bloemendal and Altydgedacht.
