The festival revels in visual arts as well as performance pieces which is why KKNK is renowned as a National Arts festival, and just by examining the annual number of visitors it can be seen as one of the largest Art festivals in South Africa.

It all began in 1994 and its founders go by the names of Nic Barrow, a political attorney and Andrew Marais.

This Art Festival attracts over a thousand artists performing or exhibiting in more than 200 creations displayed over eight days; usually at the end of March or the beginning of April.

The festival has come to play a central role in Afrikaans stage productions - new productions are usually first staged at the KKNK and are then performed throughout the rest of South Africa during the course of the year.

It is a great time to view up-and-coming artists and to see their ideas and productions given the breath of life! Who knows, perhaps you may be viewing the next Afrikaans Shakespeare in the making…

Snow - Latest Road Closures - 18h00 9th Aug 2012

The N3 from Johannesburg to Durban is now OPEN but motorists are urged to exercise care on roads that are still slippery with patches of ice on the edges.

The R617 from Kokstad to Franklin is still closed as at 17h30 this afternoon.

Snow - Latest on Road Closures - 06h00 9th Aug 2012

The N3 from Johannesburg to Durban has again been closed between Estcourt and Mooi River.Black Ice seems to be the major problem and traffic is being diverted onto the R103 which is the old and very narrow national road (from the 1960's). Apparantly big trucks are being kept back, on the N3. Long delays can be expected.

All the passes are apparantly open but heavy rains in the Eastern Cape has made driving very dangerous with floding and road surface damage.

N3 between Harrismith and Montrose CLOSED to remove ice in roads. Traffic backed up and heavy conditions expected.

If you are travelling in the Eastern Cape and KZN extreme caution is required.
