Durban - Previous Durban July Winners

The Durban July Handicap has been running since 1897, even during the Boer War, World War I and World War II. This in itself makes the Durban July Handicap such a special event. Few will forget the drama of the 1960's when a marksman shot and injured the great Sea Cottage while the horse was training on the beach. Sea Cottage went on to win the Durban July in a dead heat with Jollify in 1967. The next dead heat was in 2008 when Dancers Daughter held on to cross the finish alongside the favourite Pocket Power.

Several Horses have won the great Durban July Handicap more than once.

Campanajo in 1897 and 1898, Corriecrian in 1907 and 1908, Milesia Pride in 1949 and 1950 have all managed consecutive wins along with El Picha who did it in 1999 and 2000.
