The Caledon Wildflower Show will take place from the  10th to the 13th September 2010. You will find the displays at the Victoria Hall, in Hope Street, Caledon.

Every year The Caledon Wildflower Society (which is now 118 years old)puts on the most amazing show of over 600 plants found in the Caledon area. The huge diversity of plants means that members of the Caledon Wildflower Society put in a huge amount of work into identifying, labelling (with Latin and common names) and arranging the plants in displays as natural as possible. They endeavour to bring nature to those

who do not have the means to access the countryside and those who have a special interest and love for our rich floral diversity.

Local experts also make up floral arrangements of indigenous flowers for the display, The Caledon Wildflower Show will also have a children’s section, where school children are invited to participate by making floral arrangements, once again indigenous plants only, or by sketching of flowers.

A section at the Wildflower Show is dedicated to invader plants, eradication and control methods are displayed as well as the identification of these plants.

Posters giving information regarding indigenous plants will be on display, talks regarding fynbos will be given as well as planting advice and how to care for your fynbos.  Videos of veld scenes will continuously be showed on a big screen.

For those who love to shop there will be all sorts of stalls, good local food, a cafeteria and lots of indigenous plants for sale.  Tractor rides to the Victoria wildflower garden will be available on a continuous basis.

There’s the added bonus of seeing fields of yellow Canola and green wheat that you will pass through on your way to Caledon
