Travel - Motor Vehicles - How can I get a "debit card" to pay for fuel?

Some South African banks issue "debit cards" designed for tourists. The advantage of a "debit card" is that you can pay for fuel, emergency car repairs and any other purchases, without carrying around a lot of cash. You can also draw cash in smaller amounts from ATM's (Automated Teller Machines).

To obtain a debit card as a tourist go into any ABSA Bank Bureaux de Change and deposit your foreign currency with them. They will immediately issue you with a debit card and security PIN number. All you need is your foreign currency and travel papers.

The entire transaction takes a few minutes. For more information call ABSA on their international help line 0860-151-151

You then have the advantage of being able to choose how you pay - with your normal credit card or with your debit card.
