Morgenster Wine Estate - Wine Tasting and Restaurant

Morgenster Wine and Olive Estate, Wine Tasting, Olive Tasting, Restaurant

Morgenster Wine and Olive Estate is in Somerset West, less than an hour drive from Cape Town.

Morgenster Wine and Olive Estate specialises in three Bordeaux wine cultivars and they are expert blenders, with a world renowned record.  Morgenster Wine and Olive Estate has also planted small quantities of Italian varieties Nebbiolo and Sangiovese.

The Morgenster wine labels have not only established themselves in South Africa but also on the international market, being exported to the UK, Europe, North America, Canada, Scandinavia as well as the Far East.

Morgenster Wine and Olive Estate market a range of olive products from the olives themselves to extra virgin olive oil and olive pastes. The Morgenster olive farm was named "Mill of the Year 2007" - the highest possible accolade for olive producers. The Morgenster extra virgin olive oil was the first South African olive oil to receive the prestigious L'Orciolo d'Oro award. This Italian challenge was opened to foreign producers for the first time in 1999.

Wine tasting experience

Morgenster always  has  something new and special for you in their tasting room. Because they design their wines to age well and have some excellent vintages in our cellar, they have installed the technology to let you enjoy their progress over several years.

Morgenster Wine and Olive Estate is open to the public at the following times:

Monday - Friday:            10:00 - 17:00
Saturday & Sunday:        10:00 - 16:00
Public Holidays                10:00 - 16:00

The Morgenster Wine and Olive Estate also operates a cosy restaurant named Sofias. Sofias was named by Giulio Bertrand, the owner of Morgenster Estate, after Sofia Loren and features celebrated photographs of the young Sofia.

The 40-seater restaurant is situated on the edge of a meadow, with a vine-covered stoep and views of Morgenster’s vineyards, olive groves and cellar. In keeping with its rural charm, Craig’s menus, which change weekly, mix the old and the new. Classic dishes are given a modern twist with new flavours and tastes and use the freshest produce available, including lemons, green figs, loquats, herbs and salads from Morgenster. Of course olives, olive oil and wines from the Estate are served too.

Open for lunches daily except Tuesdays from 12h00 – 15h30 and Dinners two nights a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 18h00 – 22h30

For enquiries and reservations call Sofia’s at Morgenster on 021 847 1993.
