Johannesburg – The Zoo has a kid’s world cup program June 2010.

Johannesburg Zoo has set up a huge array of events aimed at amusing, entertaining and educating children during the world cup soccer. So instead of hanging around getting bored toss them all into the car, pack a picnic lunch – cold chicken, bread rolls, hot dogs, lots of tomato sauce, cold drinks, sweets and I suppose celery sticks and unsweetened yoghurt and stuff and take the zoo to the zoo.

Animal Talk and Feeding Sessions from 09:30 and 15:00 on the weekends, when zoo keepers will tell you stories about the animals they feed. Where they come from, what tricks they get up to, and what they like and dislike.

Touch sessions are held on Fridays to Sundays and on public holidays where certain animals are let out under supervision for children to touch and feel.

Holiday Program 21st June to 2nd July 2010.

Groups in the 3 to 6 and 7 to 14 years are entertained in various ways suited to their ages, with trips to the animals sleeping quarters, toy making activities, etc. Booking is essential

Carnivore week from 5th to 9th July

Display and interactive sessions with guides and zoo keepers as kids find out what makes a carnivore tick. They get to play with skulls, teeth, skin and fur, etc.

There’s a Kid's Soccer Carnival at Johannesburg Zoo as well jumping castles face painting

Not to be outdone there's the

2010 Johannesburg Cup of Animals football games.

The lions play soccer, and chimps, and a whole bunch of others. Everyone is a winner and The losers do not get eaten!!

There are talks on Fridays at 13:00 on medicinal qualities of 17 different indigenous plants.

The Zoo is open from 08:30 until 17:30 (last entries at 16:00)
