Riebeek Kasteel - Visit Kloovenburg Wine and Olive Estate

Kloovenburg Wine Estate lies nestled on the lower reaches of Kasteel Mountain, where the north-easterly slopes have proved ideal for the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon cultivars and the south-westerly and easterly slopes that favour Shiraz.
The climate at Kloovenburg is perfectly balanced, with the warm, low-rainfall months tempered by cool afternoon south-westerly breezes blowing in from the Atlantic ocean. Kloovenburg's mountain-side situation ensures higher winter rainfall than is usual for this area, thus lifting the water table and reducing the need for summer irrigation. The cold winters allow the vines to rest and build up better reserves.

Why not spend some time wandering around Kloovenberg Wine Estate, sample their award winning wines and enjoy some of the finest (and also award winning) Olive products that are all created on the farm.

Kloovenburg Wine Estate is open on Mondays to Fridays from 09:00 to 16:30 and from 09:00 to 14:00 on Saturdays, for olive products, wine tasting, cellar tasting and sales.

Paternoster - A Day at Tietiesbaai

Tietiesbaai Credits:

Tietiesbaai is situated in the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve at Paternoster on the West Coast. Tietiesbaai is a sheltered beach in a cove flanked by incredibly beautiful rocks which reduce the waves out at sea to mere ripples in the little bay.

Tietiesbaai is an ideal spot for campers, fisherfolk and families wanting to spend a day out in the sunshine away from the commercialness of city beaches. Facilities are fairly spartan and you need to take your own barbeque equipment with you.

Cape Columbine Lighthouse is situated in the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve a few kilometers south of Paternoster. The Cape Columbine lighthouse was built in 1936 and is often the very first lighthouse seen by ships travelling south from Europe.

The lighthouse is 80 metres above sea level and is itself only 15 tall which about a high as a six story building. The views out over Paternoster up towards St. Helena Bay and inland over the farmlands and fynbos, and then around toward Saldanha Bay are quite splendid.
