Prince Albert - Take Johns Donkey Up Swartberg Pass

John Claassens will take you up the magnificent Swartberg Pass in his famous "John's Donkey" - His well maintained if somewhat aged double cab light delivery vehicle ( a bakkie to us South Africans). John is a Karoo man through and through having been born and bred in the area. His family can be traced back almost 200 years on various farms around Prince Albert.

Heritage Day - Tree Planting at Backsberg Wine Estate

Arbor Day at Backsberg Wine Estate is to celebrated on Heritage Day. So if you had no time during Arbor Week (1st to 7th September) to plant a tree then Backsberg should be where you're at on 24th September.

So the plan is, you pitch up at Backberg (better book first) at 08:00, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee then head for the tree planting site. Your tree will be there so all you have to do is dig your hole, put in the tree and a few bits of this and that , fill up the hole and you will have helped reduce the carbon load of planet earth.

Whale Watchers is the newest boat based whale watching tour operator in Hermanus. Their bright green and orange boat is ideal for small groups and photographers. Boat Based whale watching gives you a rare opportunity to get up really close to the giant Southern Right Whales that frequent the Walker Bay from around June to November each year.

Walker Bay Wines and Birkenhead Brewery are located in Stanford, in the Overberg, Western Cape.. The Birkenhead Estate has a Micro Brewery that makes a range of great designer beer plus it is home to Walker Bay Wines which has been producing wine for a few years from vineyards planted in 2003. There is also the Crystal Fynbos water bottling plant and a great restaurant. The Estate is in the Klein Rivier Valley and has panaoramic views across the valley, the village of Stanford and the Klein Rivier Mountains.

You can go hot air ballooning right here in Oudtshoorn. There’s nothing nicer than a mug of steaming coffee as you stand and watch an African sunrise. Well - actually – there is something nicer. It’s watching the early morning sunrise from a hot air balloon as you drift silently through the skies around the Swartberg Mountains and over Oudtshoorn with the only sound the occasional roar

The Transport Riders Museum is in Ceres which is a small town in the Western Cape famous for the fruit grown in the area and the transport riders of the 1800's. The Transport Riders Museum is dedicated to preserving the history of those men who struggled with their ox wagons over huge mountains on roughly hewn mountain passes to reach Ceres and the Hinterland of South Africa, particularly what was known as the North Western Cape. Bains Kloof Pass and Mitchells Pass just outside the town were masterpieces of engineering
