Only 120km from Cape Town this seaside village offers one of the best land based whale-watching opportunities in the world. Once just a fishing village, Hermanus has now blossomed to offer a wide range of attractions and a cosmopolitan air.

Craft Market – This craft market is on every weekend 

Onrus River – Though not directly in Hermanus this little town is very close by. Popular for angling and surfing, amongst other things. This little resort has a natural bathing pool.

  • Tidal Pools – These are scattered along the coastline and provide children with relatively safe entertainment.
  • Whale Watching – Southern Right whales visit this coastline to mate every year, from June to November. Therefore the town has adapted to be able to adequately facilitate all the crowds and is a nice place to visit to watch the whales.

  • De Wet’s Huis Photo Museum – This building was originally used for a Sunday School, and was dismantled piece by piece, numbered and reconstructed in the place that it is at the moment. Market Square.
  • Fernkloof Nature Reserve – This is a must for nature lovers. It has over 50km of hiking trails and 1 100 different types of fynbos. Tel 028 312 2629
  • Whale Crier – He is the world’s only whale crier. He is situated at the ocean front near Gearing's Point and blows his kelp horn to alert everybody to the whereabouts of the whales. The whale crier is on duty  from 10.00 – 16.00. Tel 028 312 2629
  • Old Harbour Museum – Illustrates the history of fishing and whaling in the area. Tel 028 312 1475.
