Newlands is home to the Sahara Newlands Cricket Ground and Newlands Rugby Stadium. Both of these stadiums have host many exciting international matches. Newlands and Rondebosch are also home to many lovely restaurants and shops.

Newlands Forest – This little forest is ideal for family picnic and the various little tracks all lead to the Newlands Reservoir. There are many pine trees and the Newlands stream to be explored.

Newlands Swimming Pool – This communal swimming pool is ideal for those without a pool themselves. Corner of Main Road and Sans Souci Road. Tel 021 674 4197.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens – This is a world-renowned garden of indigenous plants. There are many things to do, picnic among the natural plants and bird life, Dine at the Silvertree restaurant and admire the architectural merit in it’s design, visit the curio shop for gifts, call at the visitors centre. Summer concerts are also a time for family and friends to enjoy good music, wine and wonderful cape sunsets. Tel 021 799 8783.

Ohlsson’s Brewery – Visit South Africa’s oldest brewery. Main Road, Newlands. Tours held from Monday to Friday – 10.00 and 12.00. Book at 021 658 7386

Rhodes Memorial – This tribute to the memory of Cecil John Rhodes was built from the Table Mountain granite. There is an enclosed area with different types of antelope. There is a little coffee shop where you can relax and enjoy the view of the Cape Flats, False Bay and the Drakenstein Mountains.

SA Rugby Museum – This is one of the biggest rugby museums in the world, and houses a valuable collection of rugby memorabilia dating back to 1891. Open Mondays to Fridays – 08.30 to 17.30. Boundary Road, Newlands. Tel 021 686 2151
