Hout Bay is a wonderfully quaint seaside village.  At the foot of Chapmans Peak Drive Hout Bay has a long and exciting history with fishing the focal point of activity in and around the town.

Hout Bay Beach, although small is ideal for little ones and many people spend hours with their dogs especially in the late Cape summer evenings.

Chapman’s Peak Drive – When open, (sometimes closed after heavy rain due to rock falls), this cliff side drive offers amazing views of the ocean, and is rated among the world’s most spectacular drives.  This drive is about 600m above the ocean beating against the side of the mountain.

Seal Island Cruises – Visit the seals on Duiker Island on the scenic boat trips.  Many different operators man the area.  Hout Bay Harbour.

World of Birds – This is one of the biggest bird parks in the world, with about 100 ‘walk through’ landscaped aviaries.  This park not only has birds, but also has an enclosure of monkeys that one can play with.  Valley Road, Hout Bay. Tel 021 790 2730

Duiker Island – This is a seal and bird haven.  Often visited by the many boat tours.  Cape Fur Seals and the rare Black Cormorant often frequent this island.  This island is opposite the Sentinel in Hout Bay.

East Fort – Constructed in the course of the first British occupation of the Cape in (1795-1802).  The fort has now been unmanned since 1827.  Situated off Chapman’s Peak Drive.

Hout Bay Museum – The history of the activities that took place in the valley and among its people, this ranges from forestry, to mining to fishing.  St Andrews Road. Tel 021 790 3270

SA Fisheries Museum – This museum is located in the Hout Bay Harbour and has everything, from a computerised marine encyclopaedia to a small reference library.  Tel 021 790 7268

Chapman’s Peak Restaurant – Situated on Chapman’s peak Drive, this restaurant is ideal if you are looking for scenic views.  They also offer Spanish food and dancing, as well as a lively atmosphere.   Tel 021 790 1036

Fish on the Rocks – Located at the far end of Harbour Road.  Tel 021 790 0001

Mariner’s Wharf – A collection of many different restaurant and bistros, fish markets and liquor stores.  This has a fine collection of fish and chip stores, that make you drool with delight, on can have almost everything as it is normally readily available, all will be cooked crispy perfection.  Website:
