Visit Tulbagh

The charming historical town of Tulbagh (GPS CO-ordinates S 33.28 33 and E18 41 67) is less than 100km from Cape Town and about the same from Cape Town International Airport.

Tulbagh forms part of the Witzenberg Municipal area, and is near Wolseley, Prince Alfred's Hamlet, Gouda and Ceres, It is in the Winelands of Boland in the Western Cape Province, South Africa and is a great base from which to explore the entire Boland Winelands area.

Fauresmith in the Southern Free State could so easily have been the Capital of The Free State as the House of Assembly voted by two votes to establish Bloemfontein as the Capital.

Fauresmith is the second oldest Free State Town and is approx 130 km South West of Bloemfontein.

Next door to Fauresmith is Jagersfontein, which in its day was a bustling diamond mining centre in the 1800’s.

How to get to Danger Point Lighthouse

Getting to Danger Point Lighthouse.

Danger Point lighthouse is south of Gansbaai in the Overberg District of Western Cape. From Cape Town take the N2 past Somerset West, up Sir Lowry's Pass and past Grabouw.

Take the Hermanus Exit at Bot Rivier and drive to Hermanus on the R43. Go through Hermanus following the Gansbaai signs. You will pass the Klein River lagoon on your right, pass through Stanford and proceed to Gansbaai.

Drive through Gansbaai and at the end of town you will see a shopping centre on your right. (Spar are the anchor tenants). Just past the centre there is a four way stop. Take the right rand turn to Kleinbaai and Danger Point. On your way down to the sea you will see the turn off to Danger Point to your right.

Climb to the top of Danger Point Lighthouse

Lighthouses, wherever they are, conjure up thoughts of days gone by, with foggy days or howling winds and mountainous seas, sea spray all around and a lonely lighthouse keeper in his yellow oilskins, alone, resourceful and committed, no matter the circumstances to keep his light burning.

You can capture some of the mystery and romance of lighthouses by visiting those that are open to the public. One such is Danger Point Lighthouse at Gansbaai.


Getting to Howick Falls

To get to Howick Falls take the N3 from Durban. After Pietermaritzburg and Hilton take the exit to Howick. Turn right over the highway. This road is Prospect Road. Follow Prospect road to the T junction with Zeederberg Road and go left. Cross the Mgeni River and then turn right at the Howick Hotel. The Falls are well posted.

From Johannesburg as you approach Howick take exit 107 and turn left away from the highway. This is Main Road. Follow Main Road all the way down into town and at the T junction with Zeederberg turn right. go through the CBD and watch out for the signs to the falls on your left.
