The Transport Riders Museum is in Ceres which is a small town in the Western Cape famous for the fruit grown in the area and the transport riders of the 1800's. The Transport Riders Museum is dedicated to preserving the history of those men who struggled with their ox wagons over huge mountains on roughly hewn mountain passes to reach Ceres and the Hinterland of South Africa, particularly what was known as the North Western Cape. Bains Kloof Pass and Mitchells Pass just outside the town were masterpieces of engineering

by Andrew Geddes Bain in the mid 1800's.

The Museum houses a wonderful collection of items commemorating these intrepid transport riders of the time and the fascinating history of Ceres and the surrounding district.

Led by Bertdene Laubscher, a band of dedicated followers is constantly working at ways to improve the museum and its cultural and historical displays, so enriching the experience for visitors, both local and international. The latest exhibition is set to open at the end of September 2011.

Museum hours are subject to change without prior notification:
Monday to Friday: 08:30 - 13:00 and 14:00-17:00
Saturday and Public Holidays: 09:00 - 12:00

Getting There

The museum is at 8 Orange Street Ceres.

Follow Directions to Ceres and as you enter Ceres take the 5th left (Munnik Street) and then the first right into Orange.
