Calitzdorp - Boplaas Vineyards

Calitzdorp - Boplaas Vineyards

Boplaas Family Vineyards is in Calitzdorp at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains in the Klein Karoo. The Boplaas Vineyards have been growing grapes for the brandy and port that they are famous for, for over 150 years and were exporting brandy to the UK as far back as 1880.

Port and red wine are the flagship wines of Boplaas and have on numerous occasions been crowned as SA Champion Port and red wine.   Only traditional Portuguese cultivars are used. Their range of Port includes Cape White, Cape Ruby, Cape Vintage, Cape Vintage Reserve and Cape Tawny.

Boplaas also produce a fine collection of premium wines that have also won numerous awards.

Great attention is paid to environment friendly farming practices. A great number of birds, guinea fowl, partridge and even otters and wild buck are seen on the farm. With over 2200 hectares of farmland rehabilitated and left as a nature reserve Boplaas has managed to attain a negative carbon output, which means the reserved areas of the part traps more carbon emission than the working parts of the farm produce.

Boplaas are open for tasting and sales Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 to 17:00 and between 09:00 and 15:00 on Saturdays. Cellar tours and lunches for groups can be arranged by arrangement ahead of time,
