Take the ferry on The Keurbooms River Cruise and enjoy the splendour of a riverine eco-system first hand together with an experienced guide.

A Keurbooms River Cruise lasts around 2½ hours including a stroll through the yellowwood forest upstream.

You will learn how the eco-system functions, its threats and potentials, from qualified tour guides and boat skippers. See the Keurbooms Forest, fynbos, mountain and river bird species such as the Knysna

Lourie, Malachite and Giant Kingfishers.

You could also see Fish Eagle, Kelp Gulls, White-Breasted Cormorants, African Darter, Reed Cormorant, Egyptian Geese, Yellow-Billed Ducks, little Grebes, Hamerkops, Black-Headed Orioles, Cape Batis, Knysna Woodpeckers, various sunbirds and the elusive Narina Trogon, all from the comfort of your seat on the River Cruise Ferry.

Amongst the mammals you are likely to spot on the Keurbooms River Cruise are Bushpigs, Dassie, Caracal, Genet, Baboon, Vervet Monkey, Blue Duiker, Bushbuck, Grysbok, Leopard, Mongoose and the Cape Clawless Otter.

The natural vegetation is varied and apart from the incredible variety of smaller plants  you will see trees such as Cape Beech, Giant Stinkwoods, Outeniqua Yellowwoods, as well as Ironwood trees.

When the half way mark has been reached, you stop on a naturally formed river beach where you are able to explore the forest up close by strolling through pristine canopies of towering Yellowwoods and other indigenous trees, whereafter you can relax on a soft sandy beach touched by tranquil amber waters in which you can refresh yourself before your return to civilization.

You need to take suntan lotion, hats, cameras, binoculars towels and costumes.

Cost is around R120 for adults, children under 12 R50 and under 3 free.
