Canopy Touring in South Africa
The concept of canopy touring developed in South America from a need by scientists to study natural forests from a different perspective. It has quickly been modified into a fantastic sport that most people can participate in. At the same time it's environmentally friendly and educational.
Canopy Touring is also an ideal team building activity ideal for smaller groups of like minded people.
The principle of Canopy Touring is using a series of steel overhead cables strung from one point to another lower point. The "tourer" is fitted into a harness which is connected to the steel cables (there's a backup safety cable).
The "tourer" then steps off the edge of the launch platform and slides across to the next platform. The "tourer" is then disconnected from the first slide and connected to the second and so the process repeats itself, as you make your way down the course.
Some of these slides are as much as 30m from the ground and in most cases, above the treeline. Some are shorter and others are longer. All the slides get your adrenaline pumping!
Provided you meet basic requirements of age and mobility most people can participate.
