If you ever travel from Gauteng to the Cape consider going via Kimberley. Stopover in Victoria West which is some 700km to Cape Town. There is lots to do 

If you take the Loxton Road out of Victoria West you will find a collection of very photogenic and unique Victorian Houses.

The Museum in Victoria West has an interesting display of artefacts dating back  to the Stone Age, as well as fossilised fish dating back 200 million years, when the Karoo as we now know it was at the bottom of the ocean.

Old Springbok rugby player Mannetjies Roux's has a private collection of Rugby Memorabelia and photos at the Victoria Trading Post & Mannetjies Roux Museum (Tel 053 621 0353)

The Apollo Theatre which is the last remaining example of a 1950's Art Deco cinema in South Africa

The "Karooland Staproete", a mountain hiking trail on the outskirts of the town, where you can experience the magic of the Karoo first hand.
