Stellenbosch - Three Hiking Trails at Delvera

Stellenbosch - Three Hiking Trails at Delvera

Three Hiking Trails are available on the Delvera Wine Farm in the Greater Simonsberg Conservancy. The Shortest Hiking Trail is really a walk for birdwatchers.

The Vineyard Hiking Trail and The Vineyard Walk are just under 10km and 6km respectively.

The three hiking trails all start from the Dirtopia Trail Centre. Day permits cost R25 for children 10 and over as well as adults. Children under 10 pay R10. The hiking trail is open daily from 8am-5pm although an honesty box is available for access outside of these hours.

The Delvera Vineyard Hiking Trail is 9.75km long and takes about 2½ hours to complete. The hiking trail takes you into the Klapmutskop Conservancy and it summits Klapmutskop at 523m. Your reward is beautiful panoramic views of the Winelands and Cape Town.

The 6km Vineyard Walk remains in the vineyards, and takes 1½ to 2 hours to complete, depending on how much you dawdle along! You'll enjoy beautiful views of the Winelands and get a closer look at the various red and white wine cultivars. Interpretive signage will help you distinguish between Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc!

For bird enthusiasts the 1.25km Bird Walk is a must. The Delvera Farm dam hosts a wide range of ducks, geese, weavers, pheasants and many more, which is sure to enhance any hiking outing.

Trail runners are also welcome.

The Klapmutskop Renosterveld Conservancy was formed by surrounding farmers in 2004 to protect the rare Renosterveld (Rhino field) vegetation type
