Surrender Hill is a memorial to the fallen Boers and British soldiers. Four thousand boers surrendered here and the majority were sent to India as prisoners of war. The Surrender Hill marathon takes place on the last Saturday in February and serves as a qualifier for the Comrades' marathon.
The largest sandstone overhang in the Southern Hemisphere, Salpeterkrans, is still used for ancestral worship by local tribes.
The Fouriesburg Asparagus festival has been running for over thirty years and usually takes place in the first weekend in October.
The district is very rich in Bushman rock art and various sites can be visited. One of these is at the Wyndford farm.
