Description

Woodcliffe Cave Trails is situated on Woodcliffe farm 22km from Maclear, along the Naude’s Nek road to Rhodes.

The following facilities are available:

Woodcliffe Cottage: a beautifully appointed thatched cottage with three bedrooms;
Woodcliffe Farmhouse : a Swiss style chalet in which the Sephton family lives: Two bedrooms are available for guests, with access to a private bathroom;
Hiking facilities : overnight at Toks cave / ReedPark hut /Wide Valley hut . All of these are part of the Five day/four night high Drakensberg hiking trail.

The following activities are available:
Self guided hikes in the foothills of the Drakensberg and high Drakensberg;
Trout fishing;
Horse riding by arrangement with Adele Moore;
Dinosaur footprints nearby;
Guided rock art tours – Theta accredited guides available;
Guided nature walks to the wild Drakensberg flowers – summer only; and Bushman tool collection available at Woodcliffe farmhouse. The unique features of Woodcliffe are its pristine beauty, the high sandstone cliffs, waterfalls, crystal clear streams which are ideal for swimming in and its wooded cliffs that are covered with yellowwoods and stinkwoods.

Directions:
From Johannesburg: Take the N1 to Bloem-fontein where you branch off onto the N6 to Ali-wal North. Turn left onto the R58 and drive via Lady Grey and Barkly East to Elliot. Turn left onto the R56 and go via Ugie to Maclear where you branch off to the left onto the Naude's Nek road which is not tarred. After 15 km turn left at the Woodcliffe Trail sign and drive another 7 km to the farmhouse.
From Natal: The shortest way is through Transkei. Take the N2 via Kokstad and Mount Frere. Turn right onto the R396 about 60 km after Mount Frere from where it is a further 58 km to Maclear, then follow the instructions as given above.
From the Eastern Cape: Take the N2 to King William's Town and continue on the R30 in a northerly direction to Stutterheim, then on the N6 to Queenstown; 74 km after Queenstown, rurn right onto the R56 to Dordrecht, Indwe, Elliot, Ugie and Maclear. From here, follow the instructions as given above. (There is a shorter route from the Eastern Cape through Transkei, but these roads are not very good.
