Description
Rugged Rocks Beach Cottages, is situated in Port Alfred, the heart of South Africa's Sunshine Coast. It is nestled amongst the natural and unspoilt coastal forest of indigenous vegetation.
The Accommodation varies from a large brick house to elevated wooden chalets and secluded beach cottages. Rugged Rocks is a private and secluded paradise that has to be experienced to be appreciated.
MONKEY HUT (sleeps 6):
The Monkey Hut is the one of the highest of all the cottages. It is an elevated wooden chalet with spectacular views of the surrounding coastline. The cottage consists of three bedrooms, one bathroom en-suite and one additional bathroom with a shower and toilet. The spacious lounge and open plan kitchen lead onto a large wooden balcony where the surrounding can be appreciated while in comfort. There is plenty of parking.
DUNE DEN (sleeps 4):
The Dune Den is one of two adjacent elevated wooden chalets which share a common lawn and braai (BBQ) area. The chalets are nestled amongst indigenous dune bush and comprise two bedrooms, 1 bathroom (shower & toilet only) and an open plan kitchen and lounge area. Both the main bedroom and lounge lead onto a wooden balcony with beautiful views of the sea and surrounding coastline.
CORAL CABIN (sleeps 4):
Coral Cabin is the second of two adjacent elevated wooden chalets which share a common lawn and braai (BBQ) area. The chalets are nestled amongst indigenous dune bush and comprise two bedrooms, 1 bathroom (shower & toilet only) and an open plan kitchen and lounge area. Both the main bedroom and lounge lead onto a wooden balcony with beautiful views of the sea and surrounding coastline.
CRAB COTTAGE (sleeps 6):
Crab cottage is situated closest to the sea and nestled amongst the indigenous trees. It is a beach cottage comprising three bedrooms, 1 bathroom (bath & shower combined) with a kitchen and open plan lounge and dining area leading onto a paved patio with an enclosed braai (BBQ) area. An adjacent shaded area under Milkwood trees provides privacy and coolness during summer. There are no sea views from this cottage.
SAND CASTLE (sleeps 6):
The Sand Castle is part brick part wooden cottage set amongst unspoilt indigenous trees and bushes with a variety of animal and bird life. It has a spacious front lawn and braai (BBQ) area. This cottage has been recently renovated and is now a double storey cottage having 1 bedroom with an en-suite (shower & toilet only) and the kitchen and dining area downstairs. Upstairs has the 2 other bedrooms with a shared bathroom (shower & toilet only) and a lounge with sea views.
MERMAID COTTAGE (sleeps 4):
The Mermaid’s Cottage is attached to the Sand Castle cottage and so is also part brick part wood. It has its own braai facilities and a small lawn area. The cottage consists of 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom (shower & toilet only) downstairs. Upstairs has the open plan living and kitchen area with gorgeous sea views.

Directions:
If arriving from the west, turn right at van Riebeeck Street; if coming from the east (East London or Grahamstown) turn left at van Riebeeck Street.
Keep golf course on your left until road veers right and runs parallel with the sea.
This is Freshwater Road; continue until you come to the Rugged Rocks sign.
Arrangements must be made to pick up the key elsewhere though.
